New equipment means new clients follow

It seems to be the way that with new equipment arriving, new clients are soon to follow. September saw a new arrival – a shiny Sony Z1, bought from John at Lunar Media (www.lunar.co.uk), a wizard with green screen and a very nice man. The Wilderness DVD (www.wildernessexperiences.net) was finished off and filming started on the Lakeside YMCA DVD (www.lakesideymca.co.uk), although scheduling sunny days proved to be hard. After further filming in October and November, the edit is now underway. Aqueous also produced a short video of Lakeside’s fundraising Bonfire Night, now available to watch on our video page and on Vimeo: www.vimeo.com/7517322 and it will shortly be on the Lakeside website.

As a member of the Lakeland Businesswomen’s Network (LBN), Kat produced a short video of one of their meetings to be showcased at the county-wide businesswomen’s networking event (www.ruralwomen.org.uk) as an example of what the LBN does and the benefits it provides members. It is now up on the LBN website: www.lbn.org.uk. November saw Kat heading up to Sellafield Centre (www.sellafieldsites.com/sellafield-centre) to film the Business Excellence Day exhibition and presentations on behalf of the London-based company, the Chartered Quality Institute: www.thecqi.org. The day included a very motivational talk from Dan Hunt, the coach for the GB cycling team – a highlight for the Aqueous team. The videos of the day will shortly be available to view on the CQI website as well as this one. Another new arrival this month, in the form of a new computer, tailor-made for editing, which has greatly improved the speed of editing and improved our capability with graphics. We look forward to testing it to its limit.

Aqueous Films have been out and about filming local events inbetween the storms that featured heavily last month.

We were at the Low Wood Hotel, overlooking Lake Windermere, to film the Fatface Barbie tour which featured zorbing, paddle-boarding and turtle volleyball - it had to be seen to be believed! (http://outthere.fatface.com/2009/08/fat-face-barbie-tour-2009-highlights/). Then it was over to Barrow to film the National Kite-Boarding Championships. A beautiful setting on Earnse Bay, and the weather conditions couldn't have been better. Andy got some great footage of the Kendal Trials Bike Team at the Lion's Festival in Bowness one sunny Sunday.

Kat has been working hard on a promotional video and instructional DVD for Wilderness Experiences (http://www.wildernessexperiences.net/). This has included filming at Mossburn Animal Centre near Dumfries (http://www.mossburn.org/) She has also been taking photographs for corporate clients at Lakeside YMCA, as well as promotional stills for the outdoor centre (http://www.lakesideymca.co.uk/). A promotional video for the company is also in the pipeline.

Whilst carrying out all this work, Kat has also completed her 20 minute film 'One Hell of a Day' which has been submitted to the Kendal Mountain Film Festival (http://www.mountainfest.co.uk/). We will find out next month if it will have it's premiere at the festival.

A long blog today as it has been a while since the last!

Lots of editing has been done this month, so a few new videos to have a look at on the website: the Kendal Bike Trials Team performing at Cyclefest, mountain-biking in Mabie Forest, and rock-climbing at Hodge Close.

The KJam snowboarding video has been playing on the screen in the Fatface store in Kendal (http://www.fatface.com/) and it has really caught everyone’s attention. The Bike Trials (http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=2537075039) video will be played in there this week, so if you’re in the area pop into the shop to have a look.

A slightly different subject – Kat has been filming at Keswick Pencil Museum (http://www.pencilmuseum.co.uk/). Local artist Evsie (http://www.grenville-evans.co.uk/) has been painting a 25 foot mural for the museum. Using our footage, and a lot of his own we will be editing a video of him creating his masterpiece.

Kat has been doing some work for Signal Films (http://www.signalfilms.co.uk/) this month: camera assistant for ‘Safe At Home’, a safety video for The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (http://www.rospa.com/). An interesting and educational weeks work.

We've discovered a great new application which is fun to use but also practical.

http://www.wordle.net/. Type in whatever you want, in our case all our blog history, and it creates a word cloud. A very pretty effect, as well as helping you identify prominent words.

Sunny ventures

Last week the Aqueous team certainly made the most of the sunshine. On Tuesday we ventured west to beautiful Wasdale to film some ghyll scrambling. A fantastic day out. Kat did some more filming for Cyclefest (www.cyclefest.org.uk), including a fascinating talk by ‘Family on a Bike’ (http://www.familyonabike.org/familyonabike/familyonabikeindex.htm) about their adventures along the ancient Pilgrim’s Route to Santiago de Compostela. Biking seems to have been the theme last week as we had quite a few days out on our own bikes filming in the local hills. This week we are getting started on a promotional DVD and welcome pack for Wilderness Experiences (http://www.wildernessexperiences.net/), having met with them on Monday to discuss final details.

Biking in the sunshine

Last weekend we were in Kendal filming K-Jam, a local snowboarding competition at Kendal Ski Club (www.kendalski.co.uk) which was a great event on a lovely sunny day. The good weather has continued and allowed us to do a lot of filming this week. Yesterday we ventured up to the beautiful Mabie Forest, near Dumfries (http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/ACHS-5RNFL6) to film some mountain-biking action. Today Kat had another visit to Lakeside YMCA to discuss plans for a new promotional video for the outdoor centre (www.lakesideymca.co.uk). Tomorrow sees the start of Cyclefest (www.cyclefest.org.uk), a week-long event celebrating the humble bicycle. We will be filming throughout the event which starts with a festival day in Kendal, followed by a series of guided bike rides around the local area.

Another day out filming for the Film Festival (http://www.mountainfest.co.uk/) on Monday. The rain died away and we had a beautiful sunny afternoon filming near Newby Bridge. Since then been back in editing, and hiding from the rain. Did manage to have a sunny early morning stroll yesterday though, to a second BNI meeting (http://www.bnikendal.co.uk/) – felt slightly more alert at this one!

A film with a view

Yesterday we were filming in an absolutely stunning location – Helvellyn (the third highest mountain in England after Scafell Pike and Scafell). We are currently working on a project for the Kendal Mountain Film Festival (www.mountainfest.co.uk) so have already hiked up there with all the camera kit twice this month. I’ll be very fit by the end of the summer that’s for sure! We’ll tell you more about our project at a later date…….

Over the last week we have been out and about meeting other local business-people. Last Thursday Kat attended the Lakeland Businesswomen’s Network (www.lbn.org.uk) – a lovely bunch of women all doing really well for themselves here in Cumbria. Last night we attended a Chamber of Commerce networking event at a local Indian restaurant. Good food and great conversation! Prince's Trust funding

Two weeks ago I had a business meeting with a Prince's Trust board and last week I found out that my application was successful - I will be receiving a business start-up grant of £1500! Can't wait to spend that money! It will go on some much needed extra filming and editing equipment. Thank you Charlie!

Sunday's shoot for the Ashtanga yoga DVD went brilliantly. Sarah did a great job and managed to survive nearly 7 hours in front of 2400 Watts of bright lights. It was exhausting just watching her as she bent her body in all kinds of directions - I don't think your feet are meant to be able to go behind your head but it looks very impressive! The Ashtanga yoga practise looks physically demanding and yet incredibly graceful at the same time, almost like moving sculpture; a fluid art-form.
